FEC to Divide $15.4M Among 6 Candidates
The Federal Election Commission certified the first checks on Wednesday for those participating in the presidential public financing system in 2004.All the details by following the link. The amount is down by over 50% from past years, presumably because individual contributions to the candidates are down, but Lyndon LaRouche is getting nearly a million bucks. However, here's a goodie:
The FEC said Wednesday that it may not have enough money in the fund come February when the second batch of payments is due to candidates. As a result candidates will receive reduced payments until the fund is replenished by contributions from 2003 tax returns. If the first checks are so much lower than last year and they are out of money, it must mean that fewer people are deciding to kick in money to this slush fund. How long before we hear about a "funding crisis"?
