The NY Post provokes yawns with YASSER'S GANG: WE MAY STALL ELECTION:
Aides to Yasser Arafat pleaded for Palestinian unity yesterday - and hinted that his re-election campaign may be delayed until Israel pulls back troops in the West Bank.I'm so surprised.
Arafat's inner circle turned to anti-Israel rhetoric in the wake of a mutiny by former supporters of the Palestinian president.
"All efforts now should focus on uniting ourselves and maintaining national unity in order to get rid of the [Israeli] occupation," said Nabil Abu Rdainah, a top Arafat aide.
Another Arafat adviser, Taye Abdel Rahim, said elections announced by Arafat Wednesday to be held Jan. 20 could not be held until Israeli forces withdraw to where they were two years ago, when the Palestinian uprising began.
