Today's Hoot: Barack Obama's spirtual shepherd and mentor

Let's tune in as the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the pastor of Barack Obama's Trinity United Church of Christ and Obama's spiritual guide, pal, and mentor 'splains why Barack Obama is the one:




I liked the "Jesus was a black man and the Romans were rich white men" part myself although the bit about Barack being poor and underprivileged is quite a hoot too, in view of Obama's white middle class grandparents who sent him to the best schools, Barack's mansion with its 1000 bottle wine cellar and Michelle Obama's diamond jewelry collection. Hmm, I wonder if the Rev has spotted any flying saucers like his pal Louis Farrakahn. Anyhow, the best line award goes to Ace:

Barack Obama: "I don't think my church is particularly controversial."

Of course you don't darling. You don't think taking high tea with terrorists is controversial either.

Indeed.

However, this a just a mild version of the Rev. Wright, presumably because he was doing his big endorsement of Barack despite the tax code prohibitions on churches being involved in political campaigns. Barack Obama, the backdoor Muslim

I had to laugh over yesterday's furor about Hillary's campaign circulating a snap of Barack Obama in a native Somali Muslim outfit and the associated media handwringing over "divisiveness". Heck, the trip to Africa and donning fancy dress are a major part of Obama's foreign policy experience.

Instead, what should make you wonder about divisiveness is Obama's continuing and fervent membership in the strange and racist Trinity United Church of Christ which practices a very odd brand of Christianity. In fact, they bear much the same goofy relationship to Christianity that Louis Farrakahn and the Nation of Islam bear to Islam and I guess that it's no surprise that they love each other. Last year Trinity gave Farrakahn a Lifetime Achievement award and now Farrakhan has endorsed Obama:

Addressing a crowd of some 20,000 people at the Nation of Islam's annual Saviours' Day celebration, Louis Farrakhan said Sunday that presidential candidate Barack Obama represents the "hope of the entire world" that the United States will become a better neighbor to other nations. "This young man is the hope of the entire world that America will change and be made better," he said. "This young man is capturing audiences of black and brown and red and yellow. If you look at Barack Obama's audiences and look at the effect of his words, those people are being transformed."

Farrakhan also has a long, well-documented history of venom-laced references to the "white devils" and Jewish "bloodsuckers" who purportedly decimate America's black community from coast to coast. He has referred to Judaism as a "gutter religion," and to Adolf Hitler as "a great man" -- though he later claimed that he had meant only that Hitler was "wickedly great." He has made innumerable statements depicting whites and Jews as loathsome, racist oppressors of blacks.

In August 1997, the New York Amsterdam News quoted Farrakhan stating, "A decree of death has been passed on America. The judgment of God has been rendered and she must be destroyed."

You can think of reasons why a wingnut like Louis Farrakhan would like Barack Obama, but why is Obama part of a church that idolizes Louis Farrakhan? One has to assume that Obama has no problem with Farrakhan's ravings.

I guess you won't see me in Barack Obama's church on Sunday

Burt Prelutsky notes that the media clowns love to spend a lot of time asking Republicans about their religious beliefs, but give Democrats a pass other than publicizing the obligatory publicity shots. He partially remedies this omission with a look at Obama’s Creepy, Race-Obsessed Church:

For over 20 years, Sen, Obama has been a faithful member of Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ. The other day, I paid a visit to Trinity’s website. There I read that the vision statement of the TUCC is based upon something called the systematized liberation theology that began in 1969 with the publication of Dr. James Cone’s book, “Black Power and Black Theology.” Dr. Cone believes that black Christians should not follow the “White Church,” as it had failed to support them in their struggle for equal rights in America. I suspect that most white Christians would disagree.

Trinity United boasts that it is a congregation “Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian.” What’s more, “it is a congregation with a non-negotiable commitment to Africa. We are an African people, and remain true to our native land, the mother continent, the cradle of civilization.”

Its pastor, Reverend Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr., has referred to “white arrogance” and “the United States of Whiter America.” To my ears, that sounds unashamedly black, but I’m not so sure about the unapologetically Christian.

Furthermore, Rev. Wright’s church publishes a magazine, The Trumpet. Not too surprisingly, all things considered, the recipient of the 2007 Lifetime Achievement Trumpeter Award for Social Justice was none other than Louis Farrakhan, the fellow who plays the race card even better than he plays his violin.

Hey, maybe the media buffoons should ask ole Barack about UFOs too!

I have no idea how a member of a black church that apparently feels it owes greater allegiance to Africa than to America and that pays homage to a bigot like Farrakhan, has the gall to present himself as the one candidate who can bring us all together.

Easy, it's a con game.
