In recent months the Bureau of Labor Statistics has been running a hustle by not counting increasing numbers of workers which results in the widely publicized unemployment rate U3 dropping. It provides fodder for the well-coiffed lapdogs in the Lamestream Media to sing the praises of emperor Obama, but the sad truth is something else - Real Jobless Rate Is 11.4% With Realistic Labor Force Participation Rate

One does not need to be a rocket scientist to grasp the fudging the BLS has been doing every month for years now in order to bring the unemployment rate lower: the BLS constantly lowers the labor force participation rate as more and more people "drop out" of the labor force for one reason or another.

It won't surprise anyone that as of December, the real implied unemployment rate was 11.4% (final chart) - basically where it has been ever since 2009 - and at 2.9% delta to reported, represents the widest divergence to reported data since the early 1980s. And because we know this will be the next question, extending this lunacy, America will officially have no unemployed, when the Labor Force Participation rate hits 58.5%, which should be just before the presidential election.

The Obama plan is to put more unemployed workers on welfare so they don't count as unemployed anymore. Makes sense to him at least.

The New York Times has finally found a poster boy for the Occupy Wall Street mob. It must have been tough to filter out the usual clowns from 15 splinter communist parties, the peace groups, Code Pink, and MoveOn.org as well as the street people, druggies, and panhandlers; but after careful consideration Times reporter Cory Kilgannon settled on Edward T. Hall III. The problem as P.J. Gladnick reveals is that Little Eddie is a rather bizarre drama queen (Warning: crude language):

Mr. Hall is a well-educated young man with a privileged upbringing who said he was following a calling greater than getting a job and making money. He said he saw the protest as a global movement to help fight poverty and economic inequality. He has spent the past month sleeping in the park and is one of the organizers of the protest.

Mr. Hall said that he grew up in New Mexico and that both his parents were politically active lawyers who were thrilled that he was pursuing a socially conscious life and was involved in the Occupy Wall Street protest. Mr. Hall said he attended Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and then transferred to Bard College in upstate New York because of its reputation as a socially conscious school.
He had been renting in Washington Heights for the past two years while attending doctoral classes at Columbia University as a nonmatriculated student. He said that he supported his modest lifestyle with savings from working as a teenager and that he also had “a small trust fund” from his grandfather that he had not drawn from yet. For the past four weeks, he has eaten free meals and has slept in the park.

Translation: Little Eddie is a spoiled Trust Fund Baby whose family is paying for him to hang around in New York amusing himself and annoying others. Probably a good idea since having Little Eddie living in the basement might be fraught with peril. Particularly since there is more to Little Eddie than just bad acting - among other things he is also well known for crawling though the baggage carousel at JFK airport in January to get around security so he could visit a girlfriend in San Francisco (more at Loon Has A Lot of Baggage). The best part is:

This seems to be Elizabeth Warren Greatest Hits Week so I thought I would contribute her wish fulfillment version of The Story of the Ant and The Grasshopper:

The ant worked hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.
The grasshopper thought the ant was a fool and laughed and danced and played the summer away.
Come winter, the shivering grasshopper called a press conference and demanded to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others were cold and starving.
CBS, NBC , PBS, CNN, and ABC showed up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.
America's chattering class was stunned by the sharp contrast.
How could this be in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper was allowed to suffer so?
Kermit the Frog appeared on Rosie O'Donnell's show on Oprah's network with the grasshopper and everybody cried when they sang, 'It's Not Easy Being Green.'
ACORN staged a demonstration in front of the ant's house where the news stations filmed the group singing, ‘We shall overcome’.
Barack Obama and Elizabeth Warren proclaimed in widely publicized speeches that the ant had got rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both called for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share.
Finally, the Federal EEOC drafted new Economic Equity and Grasshopper Anti-Discrimination (EEGAD) rules retroactive to the beginning of the summer.
The ant was fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home was confiscated by the government Green Czar.
And on the big screen TV, which the grasshopper bought by selling most of the ant's food, Elizabeth Warren stood before a wildly applauding group of progressives announcing that a new era of "Fairness" had dawned in America!
The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up the last bits of the ants food while the government house he was in, which just happened to be the ant's old house, crumbled around him because he did not maintain it.
The ant had disappeared in the snow.
The grasshopper was found dead in a drug related incident and the house, now abandoned, was taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorized the once peaceful neighborhood.

It certainly makes one wistful for the old days of the Marxist screech that the workers should own the means of production. The new progressive line seems to have supplanted the workers with everyone who is breathing.

The Obama Downgrade

Barack Obama and his Congressional Democrat pals have been on wild spending spree and have now gotten the unsurprising result of the Obama Downgrade of the USA's credit rating by Standard & Poor's.

Then came the Obama blowout, in league with Nancy Pelosi's Congress. With the recession as a rationale, Democrats consciously blew up the national balance sheet, lifting federal outlays to 25% in 2009, the highest level since 1945. (Even in 1946, with millions still in the military, spending was only 24.8% of GDP. In 1947 it fell to 14.8%.) Though the recession ended in June 2009, spending in 2010 stayed high at nearly 24%, and this year it is heading back toward 25%.
This is the main reason that federal debt held by the public as a share of GDP has climbed from 40.3% in 2008, to 53.5% in 2009, 62.2% in 2010 and an estimated 72% this year, and is expected to keep rising in the future. These are heights not seen since the Korean War, and many analysts think U.S. debt will soon hit 90% or 100% of GDP.

Ah, but then there's the good news:

And yet, in a certain sense, these are still the good times. At the end of the week, U.S. Treasury yields plunged to Eisenhower-era rates. America, explained Ethan Harris of Bank of America Merrill Lynch, "still gets the safe-haven money." That's to say, as crazy as Washington is, Europe is perceived to be crazier. In confirmation of the point, over in Italy, which is (believe it or not) a G7 economy, police raided Moody's and Standard & Poor's over allegations that all the meanie things that the rating agencies have been saying about the Italian economy were having an impact on Italian stock prices. Apparently that's a crime in Italy. They're not yet shooting the messenger. But they are dragging him through the streets in chains pour encourager les autres. Good luck with that.
But I wonder if "the safe-haven money" is quite as safe as its investors assume. Under the "historic" "resolution" of the debt crisis (and don't those very words "debt crisis" already feel so last week?), America will be cutting federal spending by $900 billion over 10 years. "Cutting federal spending by $900 billion over 10 years" is Washington-speak for increasing federal spending by $7 trillion over 10 years. And, as they'd originally planned to increase it by $8 trillion, that counts as a cut. If they'd planned to increase it by $20 trillion and then settled for merely $15 trillion, they could have saved five trillion. See how easy this is?

I gotta get me some of that stuff!

As part of this historic "cut," we've now raised the "debt ceiling" – or, more accurately, lowered the debt abyss. Do you ever discuss the debt with your neighbor? Do you think he has any serious intention to repay the 15 trillion racked up in his and your name? Does your congressman? Does your senator? Look into their eyes. You can see the answer. And, if none of these parties seem inclined to pay down the debt now, what are the chances they'll feel like doing so by 2020 when, under these historic "cuts," it's up to 23-25 trillion?

And of course that is why S&P finally screwed up the courage to lower the USA's credit rating. That was apparently a big surprise to a lot of innumerate folks (e.g. talking hairdo Jeff Glor), but it has been obvious to the financially savvy who aren't so beholden to the Obama regime that they can't notice that Emperor Obama is buck naked. Cue well known investor Jim Rogers from before the Obama Downgrade:

While there is nothing new in the just released Jim Rogers interview with the WSJ, it is always refreshing to hear him tell the truth, which is, of course that "the US has already lost its AAA status. Who cares what Moody's say." As for the response: "The market looks ahead: this is not the first time that the market has dealt with the fact that the US is bankrupt." As for his proclivity to buy long term US debt: "I wouldn't lend money to the US in US dollars for 30 years at 3%, or 4%, or 5% or you name the interest rate.... I shorted it June 10. I am short the US bond market as we speak."

So where do we go from here? It doesn't look pretty, but we are talking banana republic time unless we can get Barack Obama and his clown posse out of Washington.

"We are not out here trying to use this as a means of doing all these really tough political things. I would rather be talking about stuff that everybody welcomes like new programs or the NFL season getting resolved."

All that welcoming of new programs by Barack and his pals is what got us into this mess in the first place, but he apparently has a hard time making the connection with actually paying for it - kind of like a shop-a-holic with a credit card. Maybe he ought to stop sniffing around the NFL locker rooms and try a little reading:

The Greek Way of Sorrow

Thirty years ago this fall, on October 18, 1981, a charismatic academic with rather limited government experience and with a one-word slogan, “Change,” was elected prime minister of Greece. His name was Andreas Papandreou. Greeks may now wish that 30 years ago they had had a Tea Party movement. Things could have turned out differently.

Thirty years ago, Greece was in an enviable position on the matter of national debt, with its debt just 28.6 percent of GDP. Few advanced countries can manage that kind of debt-to-GDP ratio. By the end of Papandreou’s first term in office, that ratio had nearly doubled, with debt at 54.7 percent of GDP. By the end of his second term, the figure was in the mid 80s.

The 1980s in Greece were a time of dramatic expansion of government. Papandreou and his Socialist party created a new government-run health-care system, dramatically expanded employment in the public sector, nationalized failing companies, and increased government handouts of every shape and form.

Just change a few names and dates and you have the disastrous Obama regime in the USA. Hit the link for many more uncanny similarities, but one of my favorite parts is:

Even when John Heilemann tries to write an Obama puff piece at New York magazine he can't help revealing some mighty dirty laundry:

... he rarely consulted outside the tiny charmed circle surrounding him in the White House. “What you had was really three or four people running the entire government,” says the former White House strategist. “I thought they put a pretty good Cabinet together, but most of those guys might as well be in the witness-protection program.”
A funny line, no doubt, but an overstatement, surely? Well, maybe not. “I happen to know most of the Cabinet pretty well, and I get together with them individually for lunch,” says one of the most respected Democratic bigwigs in Washington. “I’ve had half a dozen Cabinet members say that in the first two years, they never had one call—not one call—from the president.”

I would suggest that the tiny charmed circle runs the government while Obama spends his time on his hobbies.

The president’s friend and adviser Valerie Jarrett sometimes pointed out that not only had he never managed an operation, he’d never really had a nine-to-five job in his life. Obama didn’t know what he didn’t know, yet his self-confidence was so stratospheric that once, in the context of thinking about Emanuel’s replacement, he remarked in all seriousness, “You know, I’d make a good chief of staff.”
Those overhearing the comment somehow managed to suppress their laughter.

So what better way to get their kind of crowd than by some astroturfing and arranging to bus in Obama supporters like those from Chicano Unidos Arizona? (According to Chicanos Unidos's web site the mailing address for the national organization is in Califas, Aztlan, so you know what planet they are from.)

While the Phoenix Public Library broadcast last night’s historic ‘Together We Thrive’ event, several members of Chicanos Unidos Arizona were bussed in from Phoenix to Tuscan for the event and here are the reports:
Aldemar Suarez: “Last night’s event was historic. The unity was amazing, until Jan Brewer took the stage. Then, there were people booing. But when Barack Obama spoke, the audience listened. He is a true American hero."

Hmm, mighty tasty Kool-Aid, but it begs the question of who thought to invite these clowns, how many were bused in, and who paid for it. As for why, we all know that, but here's another clue:

George Gonzales: “I was escorted from the back of the hall to the front by security, who told me there were a few empty seats that needed to be filled. I sat pretty close to Daniel Hernandez and Michelle Obama. It was an evening I will never forget.”

Update: About those t-shirts - the University of Arizona says that "The school paid for the event, including $60,000 for 20,000 T-shirts bearing the words "Together We Thrive," which were handed out for free. The money will not come student tuition, fees or tax dollars." So who paid for them? Obama's campaign organization Organizing for America who had already been using the slogan?

The Los Angeles Times, in a piece on the region's strangely wet and cold weather, paraphrases Jet Propulsion Laboratory climatologist Bill Patzert as saying, "In general, as the globe warms, weather conditions tend to be more extreme and volatile."
Got that? No matter what the weather, it's all due to warming. This isn't science; it's a kind of faith. Scientists go along and even stifle dissent because, frankly, hundreds of millions of dollars in research grants are at stake. But for the believers, global warming is the god that failed.
Why do we continue to listen to warmists when they're so wrong? Maybe it's because their real agenda has nothing to do with climate change at all. Earlier this month, attendees of a global warming summit in Cancun, Mexico, concluded, with virtually no economic or real scientific support, that by 2020 rich nations need to transfer $100 billion a year to poor nations to help them "mitigate" the adverse impacts of warming.
This is what global warming is really about — wealth redistribution by people whose beliefs are basically socialist.

Had today's political class been in power in 1623, tomorrow's holiday would have been called "Starvation Day" instead of Thanksgiving. Of course, most of us wouldn't be alive to celebrate it.
Every year around this time, schoolchildren are taught about that wonderful day when Pilgrims and Native Americans shared the fruits of the harvest. But the first Thanksgiving in 1623 almost didn't happen.
Long before the failure of modern socialism, the earliest European settlers gave us a dramatic demonstration of the fatal flaws of collectivism. Unfortunately, few Americans today know it.
The Pilgrims at Plymouth Colony organized their farm economy along communal lines. The goal was to share the work and produce equally.
That's why they nearly all starved.
When people can get the same return with less effort, most people make less effort. Plymouth settlers faked illness rather than working the common property. Some even stole, despite their Puritan convictions. Total production was too meager to support the population, and famine resulted. This went on for two years.
"So as it well appeared that famine must still ensue the next year also, if not some way prevented," wrote Gov. William Bradford in his diary. The colonists, he said, "began to think how they might raise as much corn as they could, and obtain a better crop than they had done, that they might not still thus languish in misery. At length after much debate of things, (I) (with the advice of the chiefest among them) gave way that they should set corn every man for his own particular, and in that regard trust to themselves. And so assigned to every family a parcel of land."
In other words, the people of Plymouth moved from socialism to private farming. The results were dramatic.
"This had very good success," Bradford wrote, "for it made all hands very industrious, so as much more corn was planted than otherwise would have been. By this time harvest was come, and instead of famine, now God gave them plenty, and the face of things was changed, to the rejoicing of the hearts of many."
Because of the change, the first Thanksgiving could be held in November 1623.

The Channel 2 Action News investigation found a 1,300-year-old Egyptian mosque that was almost flooded by contaminated sewer water that is one of many ancient Cairo mosques and churches that were saved from destruction by the U.S. taxpayers.
This is part of a $770 million program to rebuild Cairo's sewer system, paid for by the U.S. State Department's USAID program.
"We are spending money we don't have. This is all on a gigantic credit card right now," said Jared Thomas, a taxpayer advocate.
Millions more dollars have been sent to places like Cyprus. The State Department displays before and after pictures of mosques refurbished with U.S. tax dollars.
"I think it is very hard to explain to the American taxpayer right now whose having an extraordinary time paying bills and making ends meet that this is why we took this out of your paycheck, so we can fund this," said Thomas.

Egyptian-American human rights activist Nonie Darwish told Channel 2 Action News anchor Justin Farmer that trying to buy respect in the Middle East only shows our weakness.
"This part of the world has a lot of respect for power and America is not showing its power, it's showing its appeasement. They are laughing all the way to the bank," said Darwish.
Darwish was born in Egypt and is now a former Muslim. Darwish told Farmer that she moved to America and has written several books critical of radical Islam. Darwish said that most of the mosques in Egypt are run by extremists who have ordered former Muslims like herself to be killed.
"We are rebuilding mosques to support the radicals, not to support the moderates. We are building mosques to issue fatwas of death against people like me," said Darwish.
Your tax dollars also fund computers and mosques in places like Tajikistan and Mali. At an ancient mud brick mosque in Mali, the State Department has provided Internet service and computer equipment to local imams.
Taxpayer watchdogs wonder how the State Department can explain paying for Internet service while Americans struggle through the worst recession in decades.
"To the average person who has probably seen their paycheck shrink and not grow, this could be an insult to them," said Pete Sepp, President of the National Taxpayers Association.

Oh, wait, I just did!

Uncertainty created by Obama's legislative "successes" are comparable to the Depression and World War II? This does not bode well for job growth.

She is your favorite Aunt and she's now in the country legally after an immigration judge bought her ridiculous story they she needed asylum in the USA since she would be in danger of persecution if she went back home to Kenya:

Worse yet, Judge Shapiro acknowledged that Aunt Zeituni’s claims of fear of persecution in her previous applications were all lies. Quote: “Onyango’s testimony in February was sometimes confusing and inconsistent with what she said during her last request for asylum six years ago,” end quote.
Yes, Aunt Zeituni is a flagrant liar as well as a flagrant scofflaw. Yet Shapiro still allowed this latest claim.
There is no evidence that anything that’s happened to Aunt Zeituni since 2004 made her any kind of a target for persecution in Kenya. It is just something she claims — something she plucked out of the air, with no supporting evidence whatsoever. In a previous claim she said she had health problems that made her unable to walk. She did indeed show up to the February hearing in a wheelchair; but then she mysteriously walked out. She strolls around her Boston neighborhood, flaunting the expensive designer accessories she seems to have a fondness for.

She ought to fit in nicely with Michelle who has a great fondness for fashion too - check out this snappy number she wore Monday night at a fancy Vineyard eatery (h/t FR).

Of course, the Kenyan government isn't too happy with Zeituni's persecution fable, but that's because no one has explained to them that immigration law in the USA is mostly about lying illegal aliens as Zeituni's fancy legal team knew. (Question: did the taxpayers foot the bill for Zeituni's legal team or was it some deep-pocketed pals of Barack?) Anyhow, I am sure Mr. Diplomacy can send the Kenyans some more loot to salve their wounded feelings.

So, what's the holdup? Aunt Zeituni has her spiffy green dress that Barack bought her and her collection of fashion accessories, so all she needs is a ride. Now Barack could send a Marine helicopter, but maybe that's over the top even for the party happy Obamas. Not to worry, Howie Carr has an idea:

It isn't hard to put one over on this Congress since the Democrat majority doesn't have the faintest idea of what they are voting for, but in the case of Dr. Donald "Death Panel" Berwick, the Congressclowns didn't even get to vote. Obama, our Liar-in-Chief appointed Dr. Donald Berwick to run Medicare and Medicaid in April and the Democrat leadership in the Senate had not even bothered to hold confirmation hearings, but that didn't keep the Kenyan village idiot from blaming mysterious Republican obstructionists and giving the doc a recess appointment.

Of course, there may have been a method to the Donk leadership's dereliction since Dr. Berwick is not exactly a prime candidate. Berwick's claim to fame is that he has a lucrative sinecure running a nonprofit with unknown sources of funding which allows him the leisure to pontificate on how great the appalling British National Health Service is and and how a bit of medical care rationing would sort out Medicare funding problems. That'll sure please the folks back home! I hope Granny and Gramps are feeling OK so that they don't have to get judged by a Berwick death panel any time soon.

Setting aside his moonbat pronouncements, the basic problem is that Berwick has no experience running any sort of large healthcare establishment or insurance program - the only experience he has is running his mouth. Of course that means he would fit right in with the amateurs in the White House, but more sensible people can reasonably question why he is qualified to run the second largest medical insurance program in the world. Besides his willingness to ration medical care to Obama specifications, that is.

Kyl continued, “In other words, they’re holding it hostage. They don’t want to secure the border unless and until it is combined with ‘comprehensive immigration reform.’”
Sen. Kyl also said he reminded President Obama that the President and the Congress has an obligation, a duty, to secure the border.

On this Memorial Day, my thoughts are best put into words by William Forstchen: A Tale of Two Americas On Memorial Day 2010:

We are now so clearly two Americas and this conflict about how to observe Memorial Day symbolizes a cultural divide which started in the 1960s and now seems all but unfathomable. That divide was brutally and crudely stated this week by the “progressive” journalist David Corn, editor with “Nation” Magazine, when he wrote in defense of the first family’s decision to treat this weekend at a “vacation”:
So what the hell do these conservatives want out of Obama? And does it matter if Obama throws some leaves on a tomb?
David, I will tell you what we want. We want a president who holds sacred certain beliefs and traditions that are the very essence of what we see as being an “American.” In a world of such political correctness where we are constantly ordered not to offend, we are the people who on this sacred day are offended beyond any ability to express, offended by our president’s actions, offended by your soulless mocking words. . ."throws some leaves on a tomb. . ."
If that is indeed your belief, and the belief of those who are apologists for yet another insult by our president to sacred traditions, there is only one answer. We are a house divided against itself, we have become two Americas with all which that implies and such a divide, in the end, will be resolved one way or the other and come November, of this year and in 2012 we will remember.

I'd like to see David Corn explain himself to the Gold Star mother who lives down the road, but who wants his foul presence polluting the clean country air in the first place? God bless our veterans who have died to keep us free. A new generation will undoubtedly be called on to do the same to protect us from tyrants both domestic and foreign.

Barack Obama's favorite "Auntie Zeituni" has just received a free ride from the taxpayers thanks to an immigration judge. Of course, she has been getting a free ride in Massachusetts for years after she overstayed her tourist visa in 2000 and ignored a deportation order in 2004. By all accounts she got free housing, free medical care, and free cash for simply evading American immigration law. Oh yeah, she was a "health care advocate" for a while - getting paid to get other deadbeats to sign up for free medical care in Boston - and she even made an illegal contribution to Barack's presidential campaign with some of her welfare bucks.

Now however, Aunt Zeituni is "legal" How can that be you ask? Well, she was granted "asylum," but Zeituni and her lawyers are not describing the exact circumstances:

The basis for her asylum request was never made public. People who seek asylum must show that they face persecution in their homeland on the basis of religion, race, nationality, political opinion or membership in a social group.
“The asylum process is confidential and she wants to keep it that way, so we can’t get into details on why the judge granted asylum or the exact basis for her claim,” said her attorney Scott Bratton. He added: “She doesn’t want people to feel sorry for her.”

More like, they don't want people to be outraged.

Another lawyer, Margaret Wong of Cleveland, said last year that Onyango first applied for asylum “due to violence in Kenya.” The East African nation is fractured by cycles of electoral violence every five years.

On that basis, any illegal alien from Kenya can claim asylum. Heck, any illegal alien from Africa and the rest of the Third World can get a free ride. There were also suggestions that she needed medical treatment which includes just about everyone as well too. It makes you wonder exactly what an illegal alien has to do to actually get sent home? I'm sure having a President of the United States as a nephew didn't hurt though.

Speaking of which, Aunt Zeituni used to pal around a lot with Barack when he was in Chicago:

Onyango said she previously had no trouble visiting Obama when he was a state senator in Illinois or after he became a U.S. senator, though she declined to discuss details of how often she had contact with Obama and his family. [but her apartment is] adorned with photographs of her with Obama at the Illinois Statehouse...

All that ended when her status become public, but now why not get Aunt Zeituni back in the Obama social orbit now that she's legal? Here's a thought - Zeituni has that snappy green dress that Barack bought her:

Why not invite her to tonight's Wetback Ball at the White House for Mexican President Calderon? It promises to be a swell shindig and Zeituni could be the belle of the ball with her story of triumph over the unfair US immigration laws that kept her hassling her when she was just trying to get her fair share of US taxpayer loot. I'm sure President Calderon could sympathize with that.

I just saw Nancy Pelosi's explanation of Obamacare and it was a revelation:

Golly! Now that I understand what Obamacare really means, I plan to give up working and follow my muse - I am going to become a full time Slumber Artist! A slumber artist is a type of performance artist where the artiste (Moi!) snoozes in various public and non-public places as an artistic statement. As a matter of fact the rocking chair on the front porch is calling me right now and all I have to do to go professional is put out a basket for contributions with a little sign saying that I am focusing on my talent, skill, aspirations, and passions so toss some spare change my way. Of course, you'll have already paid for my medical care so it's only polite that I also say, "Thanks ~~suckers~~ fellow citizens!"

The only downside of this plan is that I will have to convince the wife, but if she has any complaints, I will just refer her to Nancy Pelosi.

Obama going off the deep end

A recent analysis by Roger Simon of PJTV Media maintains that Obama is showing signs of mental illness. A wide variety of commentators have observed that Obama displays severe narcissism. Obama is conceited, and he is demonstrating a serious disassociation from reality.
A recent case in point was Obama's bizarre and meandering 17-minute, 2,500-word answer to the simple question about how he could justify raising taxes for ObamaCare during a recession when citizens are already overtaxed. Obama's wildly inappropriate answer left the audience stunned and led commentator Charles Krauthammer to mockingly say, "I don't know why you are so surprised. It’s only nine times the length of the Gettysburg address, and after all Lincoln was answering an easier question, the higher purpose of the union and the soldiers who fell in battle."
This lapse of delusion occurred in front of a friendly audience. Overall, Barack Obama seems to be slipping into a slightly more delusional state these days.
On Monday, following his embarrassing answer on Saturday, Obama stopped by the Washington Nationals home opener to loft an effeminate toss toward home plate constituting the ceremonial first pitch. After this display, Obama was mucking it up in the press booth talking about his love of the Chicago White Sox. The announcers asked Obama which players he supported growing up a White Sox fan. After hemming and hawing for about 30 seconds, Obama responded that he grew up in Hawaii and was actually an A's fan. Again, he avoided mentioning any players by name. Obama seems to believe that he can say whatever he wants, and not reap the consequences or be forced to defend his empty assertions. Obama behaves in a manner so disconnected from reality that he is shocked when someone has the audacity to question him. Obama acts like his word is infallible.
In March of last year Obama was on “60 Minutes” with Steve Kroft. Throughout the interview as Kroft questioned about the economic downturn and people losing their life savings, Obama just kept laughing. A one point CBS’s Kroft stopped him and asked, “Are you punch drunk?" How will the American people react to seeing their president laugh off their predicament? Obama’s inappropriate laughter clearly demonstrated he has lost touch with the pain that people are feeling.

Nothing like a little maniacal laughter to set the tone. You think Joe Biden will step in with a straightjacket? Of course, he would need a muzzle for Michelle too.

Nearly two years after Obama’s World Tour in which he did his best to convince voters that he understood global challenges with a high profile tour of a lot of foreign countries (an approach that if it worked should convincingly make every internationally famous rock star a foreign policy expert), his biggest global accomplishment is still his ability to travel around the world to high profile destinations on the taxpayer’s shrinking dime.
His attempts at diplomacy consisted of delivering vicious slaps across the faces of longtime allies, from England to Israel, and pathetic love notes to tyrants in Iran, Russia and Venezuela, who responded by openly mocking him.
Last week, in a scene almost worthy of the Godfather, Russia decided to stage a coup in Kyrgyzstan at the same time that Obama was signing a nuclear arms reduction treaty with Russia’s Medvedev. While Obama was exchanging good wishes with the titular head of the regime backing Iran’s destabilization of Iraq and Afghanistan, Russia was recognizing their own coup’s takeover, with their newly installed puppet leader, Roza Otunbayeva, a Moscow educated Soviet diplomat and top ranking former member of the Kyrgyz Communist Party.
A few hours later, the second secretary of the Lenin regional council, thanked Russia for its “significant support” in the takeover.
Kyrgyzstan’s self-proclaimed interim leader thanked Russia on Thursday for its “significant support” in exposing what she said was the nepotistic and criminal regime of President Kurbanbek Bakiyev. Separately, a senior Russian official said Bakiyev had not fulfilled a promise to close a U.S. base in Kyrgyzstan and Moscow would advise the new government there should be only one military base in the former Soviet state, a Russian one.
Which of course is exactly how it will be. And though Kyrgyzstan may be nothing more than a series of odd letters to Obama, it’s home to one of the US bases that serves as part of the shrinking supply line for the Surge in Afghanistan. And Putin has just drawn a knife over one more artery feeding supplies to Allied soldiers on the front lines, while Obama preened and posed for the cameras with Medvedev.

It's hard to tell whether Barack Obama really hates this country or is merely an incompetent buffoon. Of course there's a third option: when Obama was attending all these "socialist conferences" in his youth maybe the KGB caught him on film in bed with 3 dwarfs and a goat.

Obamacare: not just a fraud

I have never seen a political moment as brutally repugnant as the week leading up to the vote. It began with the abandonment of reason. Obama and his allies made statements that were so clearly and demonstrably false that if he weren’t the president I’d call him a liar. Let’s just say he went full-on Clinton for Obamacare.
Obama knows he’s counting Medicare cuts twice. He knows preventative care drives costs up, not down. He knows premiums will rise, taxes are going higher and the availability of doctors is going to shrink. Yet he fixes us with an “I did not have sex with that woman” glare and says the opposite.
Then came the shameless politics. The executive order that “solved” the abortion issues is a joke. A House whip admitted on TV that the president couldn’t bind Congress this way. Before that, Rep. Alcee Hastings - so corrupt he was forced off the federal bench before going to Congress - admitted the Democrats were “making the rules up as we go along.”
But my outrage-ometer pinged loudest when Nancy Pelosi and top Democrats walked among the protesters, gavel in hand, as they headed to cast a vote that 60 percent of Americans opposed. Why take that walk? Why not use the tunnel Pelosi usually favors?
In part to provoke a hot-headed protester to say something stupid that MSNBC could use to smear the entire crowd. But Pelosi and Co. also had a message to send to the majority who oppose them: Eat cake.
“We’re not afraid of you,” the O-bots were saying. “Because we’ve got all the power.”
I suggest they enjoy it while they can. The rest of us will be having our own little parade in November, down to the nearest ballot box.

For folks terrified of warmer weather, the UN climate commissars sure do have a strange affinity for the balmy climes of Bali.
Recall that in December, 2007, as the common folk shivered in the wintry vicinity of the UN’s well-appointed offices in New York, Bonn and Geneva, a horde of UN climateers decamped to the far side of the globe for a fortnight of conferencing by the Indonesian beaches of Bali’s ritzy Nusa Dua resort (and convention center). There, up close and personal, they braved the preview of a world beset by warm temperatures and ocean waters, as you can see in this virtual tour of the adjacent beach resort — complete with its freshwater pool, beachside cocoons, seafood buffets and winding paths beneath the palm trees.
Now they’re at it again. The UN Environment Program, which is based in Nairobi, is convening a set of meetings this week – not in Nairobi, or New York, but at the same Bali beach resort (and convention center) where they sacrificed all that time for the greater good in 2007. Never mind the UN’s continuing campaign — in the face of its crumbling “climate science” — to restrict and control carbon emissions. Yet again, we are asked to believe the UN deserves special exemptions from its own preachings. Its conferees are jetting to Bali for the greater good of all the little folk, whose job is merely to pay the bills for such pleasures, and live with any resulting rationing and regulation. According to the Jakarta Post, some 1,500 people from 192 countries are expected to attend this shindig — where UNEP claims that envoys of some 140 governments will be present. The pre-session events (the UN goes in for a lot of those on Bali) have already begun.

Perhaps they are checking on whether global warming has made the dancing girl's costumes any skimpier? Hey, but it won't be all fun:

On Feb. 22-23, this Monday and Tuesday, UNEP will put together a media workshop, on “Reporting Green — The Environment as News.” What fun for the media! A two-day workshop on Bali, by the beach. Will this workshop be teaching the media how to ask hardball questions about things like IPCC findings, UNEP conflicts of interest, or, for that matter, repeat UN mega-eco-conferences on Bali? On Christmas morning I couldn't find one single gift to North Carolina from Sen. Kay Hagan under the health-care "reform" tree.
Louisiana got a nice package. Florida and Connecticut, too. And Nebraska scored a really big present.

Just six days ago Crooked Harry Reid said that if a senator didn't get his state "something" in the health-care "reform" package, then that senator wasn't doing his or her job.

And Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., upped the ante. He said that every state did "get something" in the measure.

OK. it may be a little late, but I'm still excited. What's North Carolina's gift? Goofy Kay, as everyone knows, won her seat in the Senate last year on Barack Obama's coat tails and ever since she has been in Washington whenever Obama or Harry Reid told her to jump, her only response was "How high?" Goofy Kay has voted for every single thing those boys have dredged up so North Carolina's present has got to be something really good!

Flat screen TVs for every man, woman and child? No, no -- that's way too small.

After weeks of telling everyone that "good boys don't do that," Nebraska Senator Ben "Dover" Nelson couldn't drop his pants fast enough after Harry Reid flashed some serious cash at him:

Why the change of heart?
It appears that the current health care bill’s plan to insure about 30 million uninsured Americans includes a provision to move a good portion of them onto the Medicaid rolls. Needless to say, that’s quite the unfunded mandate to force upon the budgets of our already cash-strapped states.
But there’s one state that today was guaranteed immunity from such a budget-annihilating burden -- Nebraska. While 49 other states will be forced to scramble and cut and tax and reappropriate in order to meet the new mandates, Nelson’s home state won’t.
That’s because Nelson sold his vote for Reid’s assurance that the feds will pay 100% of any new Nebraska Medicaid costs -- forever.
And that leaves non-Nebraskan taxpayers picking up the tab – forever.

Gosh, that's even more lucrative than a few night stands with Tiger Woods!

But hold on a sec! What about other round-heeled Democrat Senators from conservative states who rolled over for Harry without any such largesse? I bet they are steaming now and thinking about how they could all of a sudden play hard to get too. Maybe they could call up the National Enquirer and offer to sell all their photos and phone messages unless Reid and Obama come up with some piles of cash for them too?

If you want a nonstop laugh fest, you can't get much better than the Copenhagen Global Warming Clown Circus. The big news overnight was a "leaked" copy of the final draft agreement:

When your attempt at recreating the Congress of Vienna with a third-rate cast of extras turns into a shambles, when the data with which you have tried to terrify the world is daily exposed as ever more phoney, when the blatant greed and self-interest of the participants has become obvious to all beholders, when those pesky polar bears just keep increasing and multiplying – what do you do?
No contest: stop issuing three rainforests of press releases every day, change the heading to James Bond-style “Do not distribute” and “leak” a single copy, in the knowledge that human nature is programmed to interest itself in anything it imagines it is not supposed to see, whereas it would bin the same document unread if it were distributed openly.
After that, get some unbiased, neutral observer, such as the executive director of Greenpeace, to say: “This is the single most important piece of paper in the world today.” Unfortunately, the response of all intelligent people will be to fall about laughing; but it was worth a try – everybody loves a tryer – and the climate alarmists are no longer in a position to pick and choose their tactics.
But boy! Was this crass, or what? The apocalyptic document revealing that even if the Western leaders hand over all the climate Danegeld demanded of them, appropriately at the venue of Copenhagen, the earth will still fry on a 3C temperature rise is the latest transparent scare tactic to extort more cash from taxpayers. The danger of this ploy, of course, is that people might say “If we are going to be chargrilled anyway, what is the point of handing over billions – better to get some serious conspicuous consumption in before the ski slopes turn into saunas.”

Of course, the most serious conspicuous consumers are the Third World thugs and clowns that thought Global Warming was the ticket to new palaces, new Mercedes, and more jewelry for their grasping wives. Then there were the United Nations kleptocrats that thought they had finally come up with a way to ride on a gravy train pulled by the taxpayers of the developed world. I won't even mention the religious acolytes of the Church of Global Warming and the voracious profiteers in the developed world who are beneath contempt for trying to force this scam on the rest of us.

This week has been truly historic. It has marked the beginning of the landslide that is collapsing the whole AGW imposture. The pseudo-science of global warming is a global laughing stock and Copenhagen is a farce. In the warmist camp the Main Man is a railway engineer with huge investments in the carbon industry. That says it all. The world’s boiler being heroically damped down by the Fat Controller. Al Gore, occupant of the only private house that can be seen from space, so huge is its energy consumption, wanted to charge punters $1,200 to be photographed with him at Copenhagen. There is a man who is really worried about the planet’s future.
If there were not $45 trillion of Western citizens’ money at stake, this would be the funniest moment in world history. What a bunch of buffoons.

And the sooner we laugh them out of town the better. Speaking of "soon to be out of town," even Santa Obama's last minute visit with a bag of goodies provided by the American taxpayers and a list that he wasn't checking to see who was naughty or nice failed to cheer up the clowns. It must be rough on a man of Barack Obama's vaunted sensitivity that the panhandlers weren't satisfied with his handout. Hmm, while he was there he could have pitched Chicago for the Olympics again.

Al Gore may have canceled his $1,200 per ticket book promotion event scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 17th at the great Copenhagen Global Warming Boondoggle, but the Gore effect on the Copenhagen weather apparently lives on - Record Cold To hit Global Warming Conference (Copenhagen To Break Dec 17th Record by 7 Degrees!):

Once again it's bad timing for a global warming meeting as all time record cold temperatures are set to strike the the U.N. global warming conference in Copenhagen.
Last week "warmists" were confronted with reports that November Arctic Sea Ice growth exceeded the 1979-2000 average and that "in general, the ice edge is now at or slightly beyond its average location".
The bad timing for "warmists" this time is that Copenhagen, home to the UN global warming conference until December 18th, is set to break the all time low temperature record for December 17th.

Actually, if you follow the Weather Underground link for the forecast, the low temperature predicted for the 17th is now up to 21 degrees, so I count it as further proof of the Gore Effect - when Crazy Al stays away the temperature rises.

Christopher Booker in today's UK Telegraph provides a bird's eye view of the Global Warming hustlers at work conning the suckers:

What is the connection between Dr Rajendra Pachauri, the Indian railway engineer who has been much in evidence at the Copenhagen climate conference, as chairman of the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and an Indian-owned steel company's decision to mothball its giant Teesside steel works next month, ripping the heart out of the town of Redcar by putting 1,700 people out of work?
Nothing of this complex story is likely to be heard in the dreary concrete shed outside Copenhagen where, as temperatures drop towards freezing, 17,000 prime ministers, officials and climate activists are earnestly discussing how the planet is warming up towards extinction. But it certainly sheds a little light on a colossal worldwide racket these delegates are helping to promote, because the end of the story is that we shall all be paying to export thousands of British jobs to new steel plants in India, for no gain in the reduction of worldwide CO2 emissions.

In a nutshell, after Margaret Thatcher revived the moribund British steel industry, the steel works at Redcar in the UK was one of the jewels but it was sold to Corus (a Dutch company) which in turn was acquired by the steel part of the Indian Tata conglomerate, Tata Steel. More or less OK so far, but now comes the real con job via Global Warming:

One of Corus's prizes was the Redcar steel works, once Europe's largest blast furnace. It is this which is now to be mothballed, according to Corus because of worldwide "over-production". But this is transparently not the case, since its new owner, Tata, is planning to more than double its steel production in India over the next three years. Furthermore, only last month Corus announced plans to build a 20 million euro plant in the Netherlands, with the help of 15 million euros from the EU and 5 million euros from the Dutch government.
The real gain to Corus from stopping production at Redcar, however, is the saving it will make on its carbon allowances, allocated by the EU under its Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). By ceasing to emit a potential six million tonnes of CO2 a year, Corus will benefit from carbon allowances which could soon, according to European Commission projections, be worth up to £600 million over the three years before current allocations expire.
But this is only half the story. In India, Corus's owner, Tata, plans to increase steel production from 53 million tonnes to 124 million over the same period. By replacing inefficient old plants with new ones which emit only "European levels" of CO2, Tata could claim a further £600 million under the UN's Clean Development Mechanism, which is operated by the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change – the organisers of the Copenhagen conference. Under this scheme, organisations in developed countries such as Britain – ranging from electricity supply companies to the NHS – can buy the right to exceed their CO2 allocations from those in developing countries, such as India. The huge but hidden cost of these "carbon permits" will be passed on to all of us, notably through our electricity bills.
Thus, at the end of the day, Redcar will lose its biggest employer and one of the largest manufacturing plants left in Britain. Tata, having gained up to £1.2 billion from "carbon credits", will get its new steel plants – while the net amount of CO2 emitted worldwide will not have been reduced a jot.

Golly, paying through the nose to impoverish ourselves and to support the kleptocrats at the United Nations. Sounds like a heck of a deal to me! And speaking of those kleptocrats:

But it just happens that Dr Pachauri's other main job, apart from being chairman of the [United Nations' Global Warming cheerleaders at the] IPCC, is as director-general of the Tata Energy Research Institute, funded by Tata, which he has run since 1981.

I'm sure ole Doc Pachauri is more than worth his weight in gold to Tata. Speaking of which:

Last year, on official figures, buying and selling the right to emit CO2 was worth $126 billion across the world. This market, now enriching many of our leading financial institutions (not to mention Al Gore), is growing so fast that within a few years it is predicted to be worth trillions, making carbon the most valuable traded commodity in the world.
Forget Big Oil: the new world power is Big Carbon.Truly it has been a miracle of our time that they have managed to transform carbon dioxide, a gas upon which all life on earth depends, into a "pollutant", worth more than diamonds, let alone oil. And many of those now gathered in Copenhagen are making a great deal of money out of it.

Whenever I try out the old saw that "a women can never have too many shoes" on Mrs. Philosopher, she counters that based on my example, "a man can never have too many flashlights." I have to confess that it is true - I have one (or more) for every room in the house and every desk and every vehicle, not to mention special purpose ones like spotlights, lanterns, and penlights.

Lately, I have been reading the LED flashlight reviews, checking out the various on and offline stores, and converting or replacing most of the existing flashlights with LED flashlights. The advantages of LEDs are obvious - much better bulb life and better battery life than incandescent bulbs. In recent years LED prices have gone down and LED flashlights have gotten brighter and started using standard batteries instead of the usually pricey (and unrechargeable) coin cells that used to be typical. LEDs are also showing up in much more than light bulbs, but even sticking to that, traffic lights everywhere are converting to LED as well as many exterior car lights excepting headlights for which LEDs are still not bright enough.

Now here's the big puzzle. How did this major power saving technological improvement occur without Senator Barbara ("Call me dopey") Boxer and some Federal bureaucracy mandating its use like the annoying and poisonous Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs (CFL)? It sure is a puzzlement, but maybe, just maybe, it has to do with LEDs actually being better than incandescent bulbs for many applications and not some just some ecoweenie fantasy.

So why don't they make LED replacements for regular incandescent light bulbs? Actually, if you look around you can find some and they provide similar power savings and much better color rendering than CFLs without the poisonous mercury, but at the moment they are still rather expensive. Hopefully they get down the commodity pricing curve soon before the greentards give us all mercury poisoning.

I used to be an extensive eBay shopper, but have tapered off over the years as the grasping nature of the management team has ruined the ambience. Still, I can't help marveling at how they have managed to kill the golden online auction goose and consequently I got a chuckle out of their latest faux pas - eBay Payment Reminders: eBay screws up again:

Do you remember when eBay was the Great White Shark of online auction sites? Now they seem to be more like Bozo. The latest evidence is the great eBay Payment Reminder debacle which started on Friday. Instead of sending out a "You’ve Won…" notice to winning auction bidders and purchasers from eBay stores, they are waiting 48 hours and then sending out collection agency style emails that are fetchingly titled "Please pay for your…".

The problem with this is that many eBay sellers encourage buyers to shop around for multiple days amongst their other auctions and eBay store items to buy more and save on combined shipping. Sellers woke up Saturday to find irate emails from customers they had encouraged to keep shopping, but who had exceeded eBay’s arbitrary 48 hour limit and were hit with the "Please pay…" emails for their purchases over the past few days.

The sellers can't change the emails or opt out of them so they are suffering from outraged buyers who can't discern that the emails came from the robots at eBay and not the sellers themselves. Undoubtedly eBay sees some money in this for themselves, but it is hard to see how. Meanwhile the sellers are scrambling to figure out how to tell their customers that it is yet another eBay screw-up.

The Great Swine Flu Hoax - It's Looking More Like Bull Flu Every Day

The other day I mentioned the fact that at the end of August the US Center for Disease Control stopped reporting swine flu deaths separately from the usual seasonal flu deaths. That was sure convenient since the numbers actually show that the swine flu is rather less lethal than ordinary seasonal flu:

News flash: Swine flu is a massively overrated threat -- overrated not only in the media but by the World Health Organization, the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology and others who have a duty to know better.
The presidential science council warned in late August that, "in a plausible scenario," swine flu might kill 90,000 Americans with the epidemic peaking in "mid-October." But it's now obvious that this won't happen.

Total deaths since Aug. 30 from "Influenza and Pneumonia-Associated" illness are 1,397, reports the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Web site FluView (cdc.gov/flu/weekly/). But only 192 of those have been laboratory-confirmed as flu of any type. (And yes, people die of pneumonia from many causes other than flu.) In fact, FluView reports that deaths from influenza and pneumonia are well within the normal bounds for this time of year -- or, as the CDC puts it, "below the epidemic threshold."

Golly, even adding the flu strains together doesn't provide any basis for panic. And look when happens when you really do try to separate out the swine flu cases:

The CDC no longer publishes specific data on swine-flu cases or deaths. But the FluTracker Web site (flu- tracker.rhizalabs.com/) does. As of last Friday, it listed 680 total US deaths compared to 644 the week before. That's just 36 deaths in a week -- or about the number the CDC estimates die every four hours of "regular" flu during the season.
FluTracker also provides a graph that shows new worldwide cases and deaths -- and that tells us deaths are occurring less often than they were a month ago. They were lower in the past week than in the previous three.
New York City data indicate that swine flu is perhaps a tenth as lethal as the seasonal variety. Plus, government Web sites from such southern hemisphere countries as Australia and New Zealand, whose flu season is now ending, show fewer flu deaths than normal.
And the Swine Flu Count Web site shows about 4,100 deaths worldwide in the last six months, fewer than die every six days from seasonal flu.

They're dropping like flies! Not.

But here's the real puzzle:

Note that, when it issued its "up to 90,000 deaths" report, the presidential council had ample access to the preliminary data from all these sources (and many more) showing the mildness of swine flu. Some scientists.

So you tell me. Are Obama's science advisors merely incompetent or are they working yet another big government hustle like the kleptocrats at The UN's World Health Organization?

Am I the only one--besides Michael Fumento--who finds reports like NBC's last night on the spread of swine flu ("galloping its way across the country") to be wildly unconvincing? The NBC piece claims "90 dead" last week under the rubric "swine flu cases." [See about 1:10 in] This is almost certainly BS. As this CDC report makes clear, that figure includes both the swine flu and the regular annual flu. Indeed, NBC promiscuously conflates a) swine flu (H1N1); b) regular flu and c) "flu like symptoms" which may not be any kind of flu at all. ... That may be because the CDC itself has decided to conflate at least the first two categories, as noted in this seemingly damning CBS story and confirmed in the CDC report itself:
This new system was implemented on August 30, 2009, and replaces the weekly report of laboratory confirmed 2009 H1N1-related hospitalizations and deaths that began in April 2009. Jurisdictions can now report to CDC either laboratory confirmed or pneumonia and influenza syndromic-based counts of hospitalizations and deaths resulting from all types or subtypes of influenza, not just those from 2009 H1N1 influenza virus. [E.A.]
I think this means the CDC does not really know how many cases are swine flu and how many aren't. (The regular flu kills many thousands of people every year.)

There's nothing bureaucrats like better than a crisis because it allows them to a) justify their existence and b) ask for money from any likely sucker. The United Nations is probably the all time champ in this regard since they are so woefully inept and so wildly profligate, but the Obama bureaucrats are coming on strong since they have the American taxpayers' pockets to pick and a lapdog Congress to let them get away with any hare-brained scheme they dream up. Of course, lack of a crisis is no problem - they'll just make one up like global warming and now the Bull Flu.

Former NC Governor Mike Easley (D) even stole water

Former NC Governor Mike Easley (more commonly referred to as Sleazley) has been in a world of hurt since he left office and his wife Mary Sleazely refused to give up her taxpayer funded no-show job with the state university system. Mary Sleazley was famous for her taxpayer funded European travel and a no-show job while ole Mike was in office, but the fertilizer didn't hit the blower until he left office and she arranged another no-show job which ultimately resulted in top state university administrators resigning and her getting fired.

This got folks to digging in Easley's term in office and all kinds of sleaze is showing up. The latest is In drought, Easley's club got water:

As a four-year drought parched North Carolina into the middle of 2002, then-Gov. Mike Easley and his administration called it a major disaster. The governor urged people everywhere to save water, and he imposed stiff restrictions.
Except at Easley's exclusive private golf club in northeastern Chatham County.
New records and interviews show that Old Chatham Golf Club pumped millions of gallons from a creek leading to Jordan Lake, diverting water from one of the region's major sources to keep greens alive.
The records show that a state water resources chief questioned the pumping but that higher-level officials -- including at the Governor's Office -- got involved.

Gov. Sleazley cares about even the smallest things in making life better for the citizens of North Carolina.

It all took place a year after golf club leaders provided Easley with a major benefit: Club directors had voted in 2001 to waive the governor's monthly membership dues. That saved Easley about $50,000 while he was in office, a break he did not reveal on financial disclosure forms.

Hmmm - maybe it's because ole Mike is such a swell guy? And look who else was a member of the club:

Easley spent the next week urging people to save water, including during a visit to a farm in Knightdale on July 17 where he called the drought a major disaster and sought federal aid.
But Old Chatham Golf Club's water was not affected by Easley's water-saving directive.
